Impact of large class size on pupils’ performance in mathematics in Maracha district.
    (Busitema University, 2024) Annet Koreyo
The main purpose of the study was to examine the impact of Large Class Size on Pupils’ performance in Mathematics in Maracha District, a case of Yivu Primary School. Specifically, the study looked at the problems faced by teachers in large classes, problems faced by pupils in large classes and the possible solutions to the problem of large class sizes, all in Yivu Primary school, Maracha District. The study sample size was 80 respondents. Data collection tool was survey questionnaires and analysis were done using Pearson correlation coefficient. The result of the analysis was a negative correlation coefficient (-1), which indicated that large class size affects performance of the pupils in Yivu Primary School, Maracha District in that as the number of pupils in class keeps on increasing, performance of the pupils in Mathematics declines. It therefore recommended that government intervention in terms of regulating the number of pupils to be admitted per class in both government and private schools, giving allowances to teachers is necessary for hard work, which in turn boosts performance of the pupils. It is also recommended that further research should be carried out on how misbehavior of the pupils and peer group influence as a result of large class size in Yivu Primary School, Maracha District affects their performance.
