    Human wildlife conflict: Communities demand compensation

    Last week 11 lions were poisoned in Queen Elizabeth National Park in an escalation of hostility from communities towards wildlife. Hamukungu is one of the human settlements inside the park. others include Muhokya, Kahokya, Katunguru, Kahendero, Kasenyi, Katwe-Kabatooro town council and Kirongo. All these areas face invasions of animals as conservationists argue that it is man who has encroached on the wild animal habitants over time due to population pressures on the fixed land.

    Kasese ordered to cancel titles on Mubuku land

    The Justice Catherine Bamugemereire-led commission of inquiry into the land matters has directed Kasese District Land Board to cancel all titles issued on the Mubuku Irrigation Scheme land. The commission noted that titles were issued in error.

    Mr. James Rukampena, a farmer, no longer earns from growing maize and beans as he is lame and walks on crutches. Mr. Rukampena, a resident of Mwitampungu village in Kasenda sub county, Kabarole district, who used to earn Shs1 million a month from farming, was allegedly shot by guards of Ferdsult Engineering company while in his banana plantation that is a few metres away from Mwitampungu creater lake.
