    Kisoro MP, LC5, RDC and Police clash over forest

    The Bufumbira North Member of Parliament, John Nizeyimana Kamara, has clashed with the office of the Kisoro resident district commissioner (RDC) and the Police over Kafuga Pocket reserve forest in Nyabicence and Rushabarara villages, Kirundo sub-county. Kamara alleges that the RDC's office and the LC5 chairman, Abel Bizimana are conniving with rich people in the district to displace the locals from their ancestral land. He said the Police on Monday arrested nine residents of Nyabicence over clearing their land deemed to be a reserve.

    NAADS fails to pay Kisoro tea farmers

    Farmers in Kisoro Bedrict have cried out to the Government to intervene and compel the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) to pay them for the seedlings they supplied party last year. They said the Government released some money, but NAADS officials selected a few of them and paid them November and December 2016. Over sh7b was paid to 67 farmers who had supplied tea seedlings in March and September 2015, they said.

    Police impound 15 sacks of immature fish

    The Police in Kisoro have impounded 15 sacks of immature tilapia fish. The fish was intercepted at Kisoro Hill village in Kisoro municipality with a fishmonger identified as Sauda Kamana. Illegal fishing on Ugandan lakes has led to a reduction in fish stocks on Ugandan laked. Categories such as tilapia, Nile perch and silver fish have been drastically affected.
