ANTENATAL AND POSTNATAL CARE INFORMATION SYSTEM
(NYABURU ROSE MARY, 2026-08-27) NYABURU ROSE MARY
The maternal health services at Nagongera Health Centre IV, including antenatal care (ANC), delivery, and postnatal care (PNC), have traditionally been documented using a manual, paper-based approach. This has proven to be inefficient, time-consuming, and prone to errors such as data loss, duplication, inefficiencies in patient tracking, and delays in reporting. As a result, healthcare workers experience difficulties in record management while mothers face delays in service delivery. This study focused on the design and implementation of a Web-Based Antenatal and Postnatal Care Information System aimed at improving the efficiency, transparency, data security, and reliability of maternal health record management. Drawing on best practices from existing electronic medical record and maternal health tracking systems, the proposed system enables healthcare workers to register patients digitally, record prenatal visits, schedule appointments, manage deliveries, register children, track immunizations, and generate reports. Administrators can monitor the entire process, manage user accounts, and generate system-wide statistics. A qualitative research design was used, combining interviews, observation, questionnaires, and document review to gather system requirements from health administrators, midwives, nurses, and records officers. The system was developed using the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodology. Implementation was carried out using XAMPP, PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The system was tested through unit, integration, functional, and user acceptance testing. The results from validation indicated improved efficiency, reduced record retrieval time, and increased user satisfaction. The findings confirm that the proposed system effectively addresses the limitations of the manual antenatal care process and supports digital transformation in healthcare administration. Future work should focus on hosting the system on a commercial cloud platform, integrating SMS notifications, and extending it to a mobile application for enhanced accessibility
