WEB-BASED STUDENT INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (CASE STUDY: BUSITEMA UNIVERSITY, NAGONGERA CAMPUS)
    (WEPUKHULU EDRISA, 2026-09-01) WEPUKHULU EDRISA
A web-based Student Information Management System (SMS) is a digital platform designed to manage student data, including personal details, academic records, course registration, and performance reports, accessible via the internet using a web browser. In various educational institutions, managing student records efficiently is crucial for academic success and administrative effectiveness. The ICT Department at Busitema University's Nagongera Campus currently relies on fragmented manual and semi-digital methods, leading to time-consuming record retrieval, data inconsistencies, and insecure storage. This study aimed at developing a web-based Student Information Management System for the ICT Department to replace the inefficient and fragmented methods of handling student records. The major aim was to develop a system that is error-free, efficient, secure, and reduces paperwork and administrative burden in processing student academic information. A mixed-methods approach was used for data collection, including interviews, questionnaires, and document analysis. The Rapid Application Development (RAD) methodology was employed to develop the system using PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and a MySQL database. After development, the system was tested and it effectively met user needs, with 90% of users confirming its effectiveness and efficiency. Record retrieval time was reduced from an average of 25-35 minutes to under 2 minutes. Thus, the study concludes that the system improves and eases student information management. I therefore recommend this system's adoption and use by the ICT Department at Busitema University and it’s potential scaling to other departments.
