Abstract
Sleeping sickness is one of the conditions referred to by the world Health Organisation (WHO) as one of the neglected tropical diseases (NTDs. According to WHO, these are a diverse group of communicable (infectious) diseases that prevail in tropical and subtropical conditions in 149 countries. They affect more than one billion people and cost developing economies billions of dollars every year. People living in poverty, without adequate sanitation and in close contact with infectious vectors and domestic animals and livestock are the worst affected.
