Abstract
Fred Kiiza is the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) conservation area manager in charge of Mt Elgon, Plan-Upe and Matheniko-Bokora game reserves. He says there is a need to ramp up efforts to save ostriches. "Poachers have three primary ways they hunt ostriches. They pick their eggs, prey on their young ones and worst of all, they kill giant birds using traps," he explains.
