| dc.description.abstract | This study investigated the overwhelming teacher turn over in primary schools in Tororo District. The purpose of the study was to examine the effects of management styles on teachers’ turnover in Primary schools in Tororo District. Four objectives guided the study which includes; examining teachers` perception of the teacher turnover, examining the effects of authoritarian management style on teacher turnover, to examine the effect of transactional management style on teacher turnover and to examine the effect of transformational management style on teacher. The study adopted Fredrick Herzberg’s (1959) Two Factor theory and a sample of 152 respondents from a target population of 250 respondent, selected using both simple random sampling and purposive sampling who comprised of; school heads and deputies, teachers and district education officials. The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. Questionnaires and interview guides were used to collect data from the respondents. Quantitative data was analyzed using the SPSS software. Frequencies, means and percentages were used to discuss the findings while the qualitative data was analyzed using thematic analysis. The study found out that head teachers’ management styles had no significant effect on teachers’ turnover in Primary schools in Tororo District. The study recommends that: head teachers should adopt mixed management styles in their management. Further research should be done on motivation and teacher turnover in Primary Schools, and on staff motivation and teacher turnover. | |
