Abstract
The research report was to explore the use of videos in teaching a novel at lower secondary schools. The study was focused on the teacher’s use of videos in teaching a novel in literature classroom. The objectives of the study were, to examine the extent to which teachers integrate videos into their teaching of novels at lower secondary schools, to assess the impact of using videos on students’ comprehension and engagement, to identify the challenges and benefits associated with videos in teaching novels and to provide recommendations for effective integration of videos into novel instruction. The researcher also made the use of the document analysis, sampling technique, observation and interviews for collecting data. The study population was comprised of teachers and learners. The study was of immense importance to the teachers of literature, language students, curriculum planners, examining bodies, text book writers, educational administrators, researchers and other interested bodies in the field of language and communication studies. Regarding the ethical considerations, the researcher provided the respondents with the necessary information concerning the main purpose of the research, expected duration, procedures followed and the researcher also maintained professionalism while conducting this work keeping privacy and confidentiality of respondent’s data.
