Abstract
This study was conducted to examine the effectiveness of the school environments in the roll out of comprehensive education for physically disabled children in secondary schools in Butebo District. The study examined: the influence of: teacher attitudes on the execution of comprehensive education; the role of school facilities in enhancing the out of comprehensive education, and teaching methods adopted in the execution of comprehensive education for children with physical disabilities in selected secondary schools in Butebo District. The study embraced a cross-sectional survey design involving head teachers, teachers and students. A sample of 6 head teachers, 60 teachers and 306 students participated. Purposive and simple random techniques were employed to select the Head teachers and teachers respectively. Students were selected using stratified random sampling. Qualitative and quantitative data were collected, analyzed, interpreted and presented. Quantitative data was analyzed descriptively while qualitative data was analyzed using the verbatim method. Validity of the questionnaire was established at 0.84 while reliability was at .761. The results of indicated that the teacher attitudes impact the seamless rollout of inclusive education for instance results showed that 75.7% (majority) of the teachers are willing to give equal attention to all learners. Findings also show that 77.3% of teachers were positive about the education of children with frailties in the common classroom. 50% of the head teachers agreed that the buildings in their schools have ramps .71.6% of the learners stated that the spaces in the toilets were not adequate for the learners on wheel chairs The study recommended the need to pay attention to the need to create sensitive school environments in the general schools, avail adequate study materials for all the learners and train teachers on special needs.
