Groundnut is an important food and cash crop for smallholder farmers, but gender differences may affect farmers’ participation and benefits from its marketing. This study evaluated gender participation in groundnut marketing among smallholder farmers in Guyaguya Sub-County, Katakwi District, Uganda. A descriptive cross-sectional research design with a quantitative approach was used. Data were collected from 102 smallholder groundnut farmers using semi-structured questionnaires and analysed using SPSS. Descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, t-tests and the Gender Parity Index (GPI) were used. Both men and women participated in groundnut marketing, with joint decision-making common in several marketing activities. However, significant gender differences existed in decisions on selling, quantity sold, selling price, market trips and access to market information. Perceptions of participation were moderate, with women recording a mean of 3.30 and men 3.21. Overall gender parity was not achieved, with a GPI of 0.87, indicating male-favoured participation. Men recorded higher participation in most indicators, while women paid higher market dues. Significant differences were observed in distance travelled, market dues and number of buyers. Gender disparities persist in groundnut marketing among smallholder farmers. The study recommends improving women’s access to market information, transport, credit, negotiation skills and productive resources, while promoting joint decision-making and gender-responsive marketing interventions
