Busitema University.https://bdears.busitema.ac.ug/handle/123456789/11069Undergraduate research reportThis study presents the design and development of a web-based Campus News System aimed at improving communication within higher education institutions, with a case study of Busitema University, Nagongera Campus. Existing communication platforms, including WhatsApp groups, emails, websites and electronic noticeboards, often exclude students who are not members of specific groups, provide limited opportunities for interaction, and lack anonymous feedback mechanisms. The main objective of the study was to develop a centralized system that supports structured communication between administrators, student leaders, and students, ensures inclusive access to information, and provides interactive and anonymous feedback mechanisms. Specifically, the study identified the functional and non-functional requirements of the system, designed a user- friendly interface, implemented the identified functionalities, and evaluated the system’s effectiveness. Data for the study was collected using interviews and questionnaire methods involving students, student leaders, and administrators. The collected data was analyzed to identify system requirements, which guided the design and development of the system using the Rapid Application Development (RAD) model. The system was designed using Unified Modeling Language (UML) tools, including use case diagrams, context diagrams, and system architecture diagrams. It was implemented using web technologies, with PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for front-end and back-end development, and MySQL for database management. The developed system enables administrators to post announcements, student leaders to moderate and share information, and students to access news, participate in discussions, and submit feedback anonymously. The system improves accessibility to information, enhances interaction between users, and promotes transparency within the institution. The study concludes that the Campus News System provides an effective, structured, and inclusive Communication platform that addresses the limitations of existing group-based and one-way communication methods in universities.enCampus news system case study : Busitema university, Nagongera campus.Other
