    American, Italian firm get refinery deal

    The Government has signed an initial project framework agreement with a consortium of American and Italian firms to finance and construct the $4b (sh14.4 trillion) refinery in Hoima district. The first oil barrel is expected in 2020 and the refinery is a key element in the production of oil.

    Government declares sand, muram minerals

    Anybody found extracting sand and murram without a license from the energy minister will be liable to one year imprisonment or a fine not exceeding sh500,000 or both. Incase of a company the fine is sh1m. This is after the cabinet approved the mining and mineral policy which widens the definition of minerals to include sand, granite, stones and murram.

    Sweden gives MAK Sh360b for research

    The Swedish government has injected $100m (about sh360b) for research and innovation into Makerere University in the last 18 years. The move is to increase Makerere's research capacity and position the 96 year old institution of higher learning as a centre of excellence in the region.

    Uganda, Egypt sign trade, agriculture deal

    Vocational school per district, says First Lady
