    300 pigs die of swine fever in Masaka, quarantine imposed.

    Quarantine has been imposed on the movement of pigs in and out of Kimanya/ Kyabakuza Division in Masaka District following the outbreak of African swine fever that has left more than 300 pigs dead. The fever is a contagious viral infection that spreads rapidly in pig populations.

    The Ministry of Health has said it has contained bird flu which had started spreading in Wakiso, Masaka and Kalangala districts earlier this month. Some local leaders in Bukakata have dismissed reports of bird flu outbreak in their area, arguing that it was a creation of some officials in government to fleece tax payers money.

    Experts raise the red flag over tree cutting in Masaka town.

    Environment conservationists have condemned the ongoing massive felling of tree in Masaka town. Several trees on major streets in the town have been cut to pave way for widening and repairing of roads under the second phase of Uganda Support for Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) project being funded by the World Bank.

    MP suspected killer arrested

    A key suspect in the murder of former Bukomansimbi District Woman MP Susan Namaganda was last week arrested in Kalangala Islands. According to Southern Region police spokesperson Ibin Ssenkumbi, the suspect was arrested while hiding in Namisoge Islands, Kande village in Kalangala District, following a tip-off from a reserve force soldier, Mr Herbert Gayira.

    Masaka. The African swine fever which was earlier reported in Kyabakuza sub county has spread to the entire Masaka Municipality.
