    South Africa Vice President sells Ankole bull for sh175m

    An Ankole bull belonging to South African Deputy President, Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa sold for R640,000 (sh174,611,820) at the Ntaba Nyoni auction, near Ermelo in Mpumalanga on Wednesday. The bull, the first of its kind in South Africa, had a right horn length of over 110cm and left horn length 114 cm; from tip to tip the horn length is over 129cm.

    EC sued over KCCA councillor elections

    A Kampala Capital City Authority councillor has dragged the Electoral Commission (EC) to court seeking an interim order blocking elections for special interest group councillors scheduled for Monday, February 15, pending a temporary order and judicial review of the same. Mr Frank Kanduho, a councillor representing Uganda Law Society (ULS), filed the case yesterday in the High Court after EC secretary Sam Rwakoojo on January 20 wrote to the ULS and other bodies represented, asking them to nominate candidates for the election.

    EC to give update on results every 2 hours

    After polling closes at 4:00pm today, the Electoral Commission (EC) will give an update of presidential results every after two hours before declaring the winner by Saturday evening. The electoral body announced yesterday district returning officers will only "read out" results of presidential candidates from each polling station in the district but can only declare winners of parliamentary races.

    A team of election observers comprising Members of Parliament from the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) member states arrived on Tuesday to monitor today's polls. According to Prosper Higiro, the secretary general of the Conference, the team is here at the invitation of the government. He said an advance team was deployed in the country over a month to oversee processes in the election cycle.
