Abstract
Mobility of physically disabled persons could be a regarding social issue these days. This project presents the design and development of an electrically powered wheelchair with pedal-assisted operation. The system uses an electric motor as the main drive source to reduce user effort and enable smooth travel over long distances and uneven terrain. A controller coordinates motor output with pedal input. The essential wheelchair could be a simple machine style, pedalled by disabled persons at intervals the side and seat at intervals the centre for sitting arrangement. Our aim is to design and fabricate an occasional-worth wheelchair for the urban logistics, with emphasis on efficiency and environmental sustainability. It overcomes limitations of standard manual wheel chairs that lead to user fatigue. A three-wheel configuration offers improved balance and stability, compared to two wheeled bikes. The two wheels at the rear provide enhanced support for the load while the single front wheel allows for correct pedaling.
