Abstract
There was a time within living memory when death in our communities did not ask who you voted for. When it came, it found us all equal. The drum would sound, and people would gather not as opponents or strangers, but as human beings. Quarrels paused and voices softened. Even those who disagreed stood together, because grief was sacred and the dead were owed dignity.
