Abstract
This research semantically analyzed the Samia language and how its meanings were used by the youth from Samia, identified and documented the original meaning of key lexical items/ words and compared the semantic differences between traditional and youth usage of Samia vocabulary and proverbs within Samia community origin and origin of samia people, and the major challenges faced by the tribe as a result of staying at the border. This was because 5.9% of smallholder households in Uganda are occupied by the samias. (Maloba (1970)). The study adopted a qualitative descriptive design using interviews and focus group discussions from only 60 participants (20 elders + 40 youth), which was suitable for analyzing linguistic and cultural data. Qualitative design allowed the researcher to explore meanings, context, and interpretation in natural settings. The study employed semantic analysis and content analysis to identify how meanings of Samia proverbs were constructed and altered by youths.
