| dc.description.abstract | The 2016 presidential campaigns have proved to be somewhat different from the others held under NRM era, namely in 1996, 2001, 2006 and 2011. To start with, they have been relatively peaceful and the public has been spared the usual naked brutality dished out to the Opposition by security organs. It is not that NRM has suddenly become more tolerant of the Opposition but only changed tactics. The movements of NRM's main opponents, FDC's Kizza Besigye and Go Forward's Amama Mbabazi, are closely monitored and they are barred from visiting hospitals and schools but without beating them up. | |
