Abstract
In Uganda, mathematics has long been regarded as a difficult subject. For decades, it was also a male-dominated academic space. That changed in 2022 when Betty Nannyonga Kivumbi was elected the country's first professor of mathematics.
With four post-doctoral qualifications and a distinguished academic career, she shattered a historical barrier in a field many fear to pursue.
