Abstract
The increasing reliance on cooking gas (LPG) among students at Busitema University, Faculty of Science and Education, has been met with significant challenges, including long distances to gas refilling stations, inconsistent pricing, unreliable delivery, and the absence of digital payment options. These inefficiencies discourage the use of clean energy and push students toward unsafe alternatives such as charcoal and firewood.
This project presents the design and development of a Multibrand Online Gas Ordering, Sales, and Delivery System tailored to meet the needs of students and gas vendors within the Busitema University community. The system provides a web-based platform through which students can browse multiple gas brands, compare prices, place orders, make digital payments, and track deliveries in real time. Vendors are equally empowered to manage inventory, monitor orders, and expand their customer base through a dedicated administrative interface.
The system was developed using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL, hosted on a local XAMPP server. The development was guided by the Structured Systems Analysis and Design Methodology (SSADM) complemented by elements of the Rapid Application Development (RAD) model to ensure both technical rigor and responsiveness to user needs. Data was collected through interviews, observation, and literature review involving ten students and three gas vendors.
The resulting system streamlines gas procurement, improves safety, promotes clean energy adoption, and contributes to the digital transformation of service delivery within the university community. It is designed with scalability in mind to allow future integration of mobile applications and AI-based demand forecasting.
