    An Online student complain management system

    This project report presents the development of an online student complaint management system for Busitema University. The current manual complaint handling system was found to be inefficient, with an estimated 60% of complaints either unaddressed or taking over four weeks to receive a response. The main objective was to develop a web-based system that allows students to submit complaints, automatically routes them to the appropriate administrator based on complaint type, and enables tracking and reporting. The study adopted a case study research design and used Rapid Application Development (RAD) methodology. Data was collected using questionnaires, interviews, and observation from a sample of 80 students and 20 administrative staff. System requirements were identified, and the system was designed using context diagrams, DFDs, use case diagrams, and an ERD. Implementation used HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL. The system was tested using unit testing, integration testing, and user acceptance testing. Results showed that the system improved complaint resolution time by 75%, eliminated miscounting, and provided full transparency. The study concludes that an online complaint management system with automated routing significantly enhances service delivery in higher education institutions. Recommendations include integration with existing student portals.

    Pest and disease advisory and notification web-based system.

    Agricultural productivity in many rural farming communities is significantly affected by the prevalence of crop pests and diseases, which often lead to reduced yields and food insecurity. Farmers in such areas frequently face challenges in accessing timely and reliable agricultural advisory services due to limited extension support, inadequate communication channels, and delays in expert response. This study presents the design and development of a Pest and Disease Advisory and Notification Web-Based System aimed at improving communication between farmers and agricultural experts. The system was developed using a structured approach that involved requirements gathering, system analysis, design, implementation, testing, and validation. Primary data was collected through interviews and questionnaires administered to farmers and agricultural officers to understand existing pest and disease management practices and identify system requirements. The collected data was analyzed using Microsoft Excel to support decision-making during system design. Pest and Disease Advisory and Notification Web-Based System was implemented using open-source web technologies including HTML5, CSS3, Bootstrap 5, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL. The system enables farmers to report pest and disease cases, upload supporting images, and receive timely feedback from agronomists. It also allows agricultural experts to review reports, provide recommendations, and manage agricultural advisory information through a centralized platform. System testing was conducted using unit testing, integration testing, and user acceptance testing to ensure functionality, reliability, and usability. The results indicated that the system effectively improves communication between farmers and agricultural experts and enhances access to pest and disease advisory services. In conclusion, Pest and Disease Advisory and Notification Web-Based System provides an efficient digital solution for improving agricultural information flow and supporting timely decision-making in pest and disease management. The system has the potential to enhance agricultural productivity and contribute to improved food security in rural farming communities such as Tarak Village in Kween District.

    Digital farm management system.

    This study focuses on the design and implementation of a digital farm management system for small holder farmers in Kween district. The digital farm management system (DFMS) is an online platform designed to enhance agricultural productivity through improved record keeping, harvest tracking and marketing of farm produce amongst farmers and buyers in Kween district. The system is a platform that enables both farmers and buyers to interact online during the process of selling the agricultural produce by farmers and buying buy the sellers. The DFMS enables farmers create accounts, login, upload farm produce, record and track harvests including viewing of orders made by buyers. Buyers create accounts, login, view produce available for sell and place orders. System administrator manages users, system audits and generate reports and download them for farmers. The system combines record keeping, harvest tracking and marketing all in one platform and the technologies used include HTML, CSS, java script for the front-end development, PHP for backend development and MYSQL database for data storage and runs using warm server. The different modules like authentication, farm records module, harvest management module and marketing module were developed using visual studio code. The web browsers used include Microsoft edge and chrome. Therefore, by use of digital technologies through automating manual processes, the digital farm management system (DFMS) reduces manual record keeping, local search for markets and reduces exploitation by middlemen hence improving efficiency through easy access of the market and secure record keeping.

    Web based Centralized health records management system

    The increasing demand for effective managing of health records has highlighted the limitations of traditional paper-based processes that rely on physical papers and files. At Busitema University, this approach has been associated with inefficiencies such as loss or damage of records, incomplete entries, delayed treatment, and difficulties in data sharing across campuses. To address these challenges, this study developed a Web-Based Centralized Health Records Management System aimed at providing a centralized, automated, and user friendly platform for recording, monitoring, and evaluating activities at the clinics. To add on, the project employed the Rapid Application Development (RAD) methodology, which facilitated iterative prototyping and active involvement of stakeholders throughout the development cycle. Data requirements were gathered through interviews, literature review, and focus group discussions, ensuring that the system reflected both user needs and institutional requirements. The system was designed using Unified Modelling Language (UML) strategies to capture system processes, user interactions, and data flows in a structured manner. The implementation phase utilized HTML, CSS, JavaScript for developing interactive user interfaces, PHP, and MySQL for backend services. These were chosen for their interoperability, scalability, and suitability for web-based deployment. Following development, the system underwent testing and validation involving students, nurses, and clinic administrators at Busitema University. The results demonstrated that the system effectively met its objectives by enabling digital logging of students, quick patient records retrieval, and ensuring seamless sharing of patient records across campuses. Overall, the system successfully demonstrated the potential to replace paper-based health records management practices at Busitema University with an automated solution that enhances the quality of patient care and reduces administrative workload. This project therefore contributes both a practical tool and a methodological framework for institutions seeking to modernize patient health records management.

    Development of a Web-Based water bill payment system intergrated with SMS notifications and pop messages.

    The increasing adoption of information and communication technologies has transformed the way organizations deliver services and manage information. Water utility providers are embracing digital solutions to improve billing efficiency, enhance customer communication, and simplify payment processes. Integrating SMS notifications and pop-up reminders into water billing systems helps consumers receive timely billing information and payment reminders, thereby improving service delivery and revenue collection. The main objective of this project was to develop a Water Bill Payment System integrating SMS notifications and pop-up messages for Nagongera town. The Rapid Application Development (RAD) methodology was employed because it supports the rapid development and deployment of functional software through continuous user involvement and iterative improvements. The system was designed using the Model-View-Presenter (MVP) architectural pattern to ensure efficient processing of user requests and effective management of application data. The application was developed using the PHP programming language with Visual Studio Code as the integrated development environment, while Windows 10 was used as the development platform. Comprehensive testing was conducted to evaluate the functionality, reliability, and usability of the developed system. The test results indicated that the system successfully met the intended objectives by providing efficient water bill management, secure payment processing, automated SMS notifications, and timely pop-up reminders, thereby improving customer convenience and supporting effective revenue collection for the water utility.

    Green Grocery System Case Study: Kalerwe Market

    ABSTRACT The retail grocery industry is essential to achieving the United Nations sustainable development goals (SDGs), because it shapes sustainable patterns of production and consumption. The 4w framework analysis explores the grocery industry's role in SDG 13 "Climate action" and reveal lack of attention regarding to industry's contributions to mitigate climate change. By coordinating grocery retail practices with the SDGs, this study provides a ground plan for policymakers, academicians and practitioners with a path for promoting a sustainable retail grocery ecosystem. The increasing demand for healthy, organic, and environmentally sustainable food products has created opportunities for the adoption of digital solutions within the grocery retail sector. Often customers face challenges such as long travel distances, traffic jam, limited parking space and difficulties in accessing products and reliable information about product availability, prices and categories and these are challenges. This study aimed to design and implement an online green grocery store system that enables customers to purchase fresh and sustainable products conveniently while supporting local vendors, farmers and promoting environmentally responsible consumption. The study adopted a mixed methods research approach. Findings revealed that manual record keeping, poor inventory management, limited customer records and inefficient purchasing processes were among the major challenges faced by stakeholders. The system provides functionalities such as user registration, product browsing, e.t.c. Testing results showed that the system improved access to products, enhanced record management, reduced transaction delays, and increased overall convenience for users. The study conclude that implementing an online green grocery system platform can significantly improve grocery retail operations while promoting healthy living, environmental sustainability and economic opportunities for local vendors. The system provides a practical model for modernizing traditional produce markets in Uganda and can be expanded to other markets in the future.

    Coffee Information Management System(CIMS)

    Coffee is an important cash crop and a major source of livelihood for smallholder farmers in Uganda. However, smallholder coffee farmers in Kapchorwa face challenges in post-harvest handling, drying, storage, and marketing. Poor harvesting practices, inadequate drying and storage conditions, limited documentation, and weak traceability can contribute to coffee quality deterioration, reduced market access, and lower returns to farmers. The study therefore aimed to design, develop, implement, and test a Coffee Information Management System (CIMS) to improve coffee post-harvest handling, storage, and marketing among smallholder farmers. The study adopted an applied research approach and used the SADAM methodology within the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC), incorporating Rapid Application Development (RAD) principles. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and document review involving smallholder farmers, coffee buyers, and selected agricultural extension officers. The collected information was analyzed to identify functional and non-functional system requirements. The system was developed as a web-based application using HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL, with XAMPP used for local deployment and testing. The developed CIMS provides functionality for user registration and login, farmer management, harvest recording, drying and storage records, coffee availability, buyer transactions, and purchase history. The system also supports centralized data storage and improves the organization, retrieval, and traceability of coffee information from harvest to sale. Unit testing, integration testing, and user validation were conducted to assess the functionality and usability of the system. The study concludes that CIMS provides a practical digital approach to replacing fragmented manual record-keeping and improving the management of coffee post-harvest and marketing information. The study recommends adoption of the system by coffee organizations and smallholder farmers, together with continuous system maintenance, improvement, and development of additional modules to enhance its functionality.

    Online Food Ordering and Delivery Managment System

    Abstract This research report presents the design and implementation of an Online Food Ordering and Delivery Management System for KEJ Foods, a food establishment located at Busitema University's Nagongera Campus. The study addressed the operational challenges posed by the manual food ordering system currently in use, which resulted in long wait times, order inaccuracies, and limited business intelligence for the owners. The main objective was to design an integrated digital management system to streamline operations, enhance decision-making, and improve customer service. The specific objectives included reviewing literature to determine system requirements, designing the system, implementing core functional modules, and testing the system at KEJ Foods. The study employed a qualitative research approach integrated with the Rapid Application Development (RAD) methodology. Data collection methods included interviews, questionnaires, and observation. The system was developed using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL, following a three-tier architecture. Key findings revealed significant improvements in order processing efficiency, inventory management, and customer satisfaction. The system successfully provided functionalities for menu management, order processing, real-time chat, payment processing, and administrative reporting. The study concluded that the implemented system effectively addressed the identified operational challenges and provided a context-appropriate digital solution for campus-based food vendors. Recommendations include investment in digital food ordering platforms, training for administrators, and establishment of data privacy policies.

    An online admission management system : case study, Mahanga secondary school.

    This study focused on the design and development of an Online Admission Management System (OAMS) for Mahanga Secondary School in Tororo District, Uganda. The project was motivated by challenges associated with manual admission processes, including physical submission of forms, delays in processing applications, transportation costs, difficulties in storing and retrieving records, and limited communication between applicants and school administrators. The study adopted a mixed-methods approach, using questionnaires, interviews and observation to examine the existing admission process and identify system requirements. System development followed an iterative Agile-oriented approach, allowing requirements to be translated into system functions and refined during development. The implemented OAMS provides a public admission portal, applicant registration and login, online application, document submission, application tracking and an administrative dashboard for reviewing and managing applications. The system also provides a payment/receipt workflow in which payment evidence can be submitted for verification before approval. The implemented interface demonstrates the main user and administrative functions through the home page, applicant dashboard and administrator dashboard. The system is intended to reduce physical visits, improve record management, support timely communication and centralize admission information.

    A web-based nutritional tracking and recommendation system case study; Fukang health center, Tororo.

    Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity continue to pose significant health challenges in rural Uganda, where patients often struggle to adhere to dietary and lifestyle recommendations due to reliance on memory and lack of between-visit support from healthcare providers. This study aimed to develop web based Nutritional tracking and recommendation system for Fukang Health Center that enables patients to log their food choices, and allows supervisors to create weekly meal timetables, monitor patient engagement, and provide supportive feedback. Given the nature of the data that was to be collected, which included both numerical figures and descriptive responses, the study adopted both quantitative and qualitative approaches to ensure complete data collection and system validation. The system was developed using the Rapid Application Development (RAD) approach from Structured Systems Analysis and Design Methodology (SSADM). Implementation utilized Python with the Django framework, React, Tailwind CSS, and SQLite. Key findings revealed that the majority of patients rely solely on memory to follow dietary advice. The system was successfully tested and validated, achieving a positive overall validation average of 4.1 out of 5 (82%).Therefore, the system is suitable for use at Fukang Health Center to help manage NCDs and enable healthcare workers to monitor patients remotely.

    Bakery Order and Sales Management System

    This study focused on the design and implementation of a web-based Bakery Order and Sales Management System (BOASMS) for Mama Kevina Bakery in Tororo Town, Uganda. The bakery relied mainly on manual and spreadsheet-based processes for managing customer orders, sales, inventory, and supplier records, resulting in errors, misplaced records, delayed reporting, and limited access to real-time information. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, using interviews, observation, questionnaires, and document analysis to determine system requirements. System development was guided by the Software Development Life Cycle, Structured Systems Analysis and Design Methodology (SSADM), and Rapid Application Development (RAD). The system was implemented using PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Bootstrap. It provides functionalities for customer registration, product management, online ordering, sales processing, inventory tracking, user management, and report generation, with authentication and role-based access control. Testing and validation were conducted to assess functionality, usability, security, and performance. The developed system provides a centralized platform for managing bakery operations and improves accuracy, efficiency, accountability, and timely decision-making at Mama Kevina Bakery.

    Supermarket Management System (Case Study Area: Sky Supermarket Nagongera Town Council)

    This project looks at the merchandise management sector of the business industry. Utilizing computers, the internet, and other electronic devices has made managing various tasks. The sky supermarket current system is inefficient and prone to errors that leads to losses; Therefore, project is to design and implement an electronic supermarket management system that allows for the proper management of merchandise details and data in a centralized, organized manner. It also features an easy-to-use interface so that even users with rudimentary computer knowledge can easily interact with the system. This project aims to build a platform that will enable both the user and the administrator to monitor daily activities related to merchandise operations and management in the supermarket, such as merchandise record keeping, sales management, revenue and profit computation, and customer order fulfillment. The specifications for a supermarket merchandise management system serve as the foundation for its execution. Managing stock levels and order fulfillment In order to assess the viability and usability of a completed system, this article provides a sufficient description of the merchandise management system. The system was implemented using a rapid application development method that used software and tools like SQL Server, Hypertext Processor Language, Notepad, Visual Studio Code, XAMPP Server, JavaScript, and UML for modeling. The main idea is to use extra features for data interpretation when tracking the sales of goods from customer orders. Multiple products can be added to the system in the database and client-server paradigms. This supports the targeted small enterprises and permits expansion in the future.

    Poultry Management System Case Study: Jwf Poultry Farm

    The online poultry management system was designed to help small scale poultry farmers to be able to store their farm records in a place they could easily access them like their smartphone and as well be able to carry out their farm management with ease. The online poultry management system was an android application that was developed to have a user who was the farm manager or owner who was able to store the various farm records as well as edit or delete such records or even retrieve the already existing ones with ease because access to one’s smartphone is easier than using other gadgets like laptops, desktops. The online poultry management system included various sections like the dashboard which provided quick access to the user so that they could access the various modules in the application without difficulty. It also included the eggs section where one could add a collection, and then increment it whenever they collected more eggs and could as well view the total eggs collected on that particular day. It also included the sales activity or page where you could view the sales for a particular day and also add new ones that had been made. It also showed the total sales for that particular day. It also included a purchases or expenses activity or page that showed all the purchases and as well allowed the user to add a new purchase once it had been made. It also included a feeding activity or page which contains records on the house to be fed, the time of feeding, the type of feed to be given to that particular house as well as the quantity of feeds to be given to that particular house. It also allowed the user to add a new feeding record containing the above and as well was able to search for a particular house once required. It also included a health activity or page where you could view the vaccination date, vaccines to be administered as well as the disease to be treated and the user could also be able to add a new record in the same activity. It also included various reports such as eggs report, purchase report, sales report provided to the user at any time. The system was developed using Rapid Application Development (RAD). It was developed using android studio which uses Intellij IDEA as its Integrated Development Environment. The language used for developing was java in association with XML all available in android studio. XML handles how the different activities/pages would appear then java now connects the different activities as well as carry out various operations in the system including calculations, database connections to mention but a few. The application is online and the data from the various users is stored in google Firebase which is under Google Cloud.

    Retail Shop Debtor Management Tool (Case Study: Opio Peter’s Retail Shop In Nagongera Town Council Tororo District)

    The purpose of this research was to develop a comprehensive and effective retail shop debtor management tool for tracking, analyzing and managing debtors. This improved the efficiency and accuracy of debtor management in retail businesses. The manual system of debtor management that existed was time-consuming and error-prone, leading to delays in decision-making and loss of debtor information. The developed tool was designed to automate the process of debtor management, including sales transactions, inventory management, and financial reporting. The system based on a relational database management system and includes a user-friendly interface for easy data entry and retrieval. The research included a literature review of the existing systems, an analysis of the requirements of the developed tool, and the development and testing of the system. The outcomes of the study included improved efficiency and accuracy of debtor management, reduced costs, and increased revenue for retail businesses. the developed system was implemented using tools such as MySQL, PHP. The study was significant as it addresses a critical problem faced by retail businesses and provides a practical solution for improving their debtor information.

    School Property Management System Case Study: Nabumali High School

    This project report is about School Property Management System which was designed to help schools manage properly their school properties by keeping proper track of available properties, those borrowed and those that are free. This could enable the school procurement committee to plan well. The system consisted of three sections for example the customer’s side where a customer would log in, view available properties, book a property of interest also send a message to the school where need be. The second section was the school which added available properties, viewed the customer’s messages and bookings, updated on the available properties. The third section is the administrator who was able to update the system by making changes on accounts and could also view the properties available and those borrowed and also generating reports for some events in the specific periods. The main aim as to why I underwent this research was to help schools to overcome the numerous shortfalls like poor storage of property records, tiresomeness during recording of property information on papers, time wasting and costly for customers who use the properties. This project was a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. The researcher employed observation, interviews and review of documents as methods of data collection. The methodology that was first applied was SSAD (Structured System Analysis and Design) used for analyzing and designing the structure of the system. This was followed by the Rapid Application Development) methodology which was easy to implement to a working system and saved time and finally the prototyping was also applied. For management of the database, the researcher used MySQL and phpMyAdmin as my IDE to normalize, store and update data as well as other activities on data like MySQL work bench to draw the data structures. With text editors, visual studio was used. Furthermore, the researcher used php to link the MySQL for the database and the HTML, the html for creating web pages and forms, java script for popups, alerts or notifications and CSS for styling pages as the programming languages as well as bootstrap as one of the technologies (libraries) used to make multiple page styling easier. Then the researcher also used Xamp local server to probably host the system on the local device and the system itself was simply accessed through web-browsers like Google chrome and internet explorer. This system was then confirmed to run on the windows XP Operating system.

    Online Coffee Shop Management System (Case Study. Nanyanga Coffee Shop In Busia)

    An Online coffee management System is a software application developed for managing various coffee shop activities such as booking available coffee on stock, paying online, managing orders, checking available coffee online. In this project, the main object was to develop an online coffee shop management System. This system was developed to address high transport cost on coming to check available coffee in the shop, wasting money on advertisements in newspapers and radio adverts. The method used in the development of the project was spiral modal methodology that ensured systematic and sequential flow of the system stages. The system development tools used were Dataflow Diagram, Context Diagram, Entity Relationship Diagrams and a Flow Chart and the technologies used in implementation of the objectives of this study included MYSQL server database, PHP for server connections, and V.B (Visio basic) as the programing language. The result of the project was an Online coffee shop management System capable of allowing students to view, select and book coffee, allow coffee administrators to register clients and deliver to them the coffee depending on their preferences. The application was finally run on the computer and was verified to be running sufficiently well and produced the expected results.

Quantitative data involves the analysis of leave-related metrics, such as approval times and overall system usage. Key findings underscore the system's positive impact on organizational efficiency, reducing administrative burdens associated with manual paperwork and approval processes. Employee satisfaction is notably improved, attributed to the system's user-friendly interface, accessibility, and streamlined leave request workflows. The study also highlights the system's role in ensuring compliance with labor laws and internal policies, minimizing errors, and providing accurate record-keeping. Furthermore, the report examines into the system's contribution to data analysis and reporting capabilities, showcasing how organizations can leverage leave-related data to make informed workforce management decisions. Cost savings and scalability aspects are explored, emphasizing the economic benefits and adaptability of the online leave management system in the face of organizational growth. The findings affirm that the adoption of an online employee leave management system has far-reaching implications for modern workplaces, aligning with the changing nature of work and supporting employee well-being. The study concludes with recommendations for organizations considering the implementation of such systems for optimal performance and ongoing improvement.

    Online Birth Certificate Management System Case Study: Tororo Main Hospital

    Online birth certificate management system was designed to allow the parents of the new born babies to easily acuire their birth certificates with delay, errors among others. The main objective of this project was to develop online birth certificate management system. The methodologies used include the Structured System Analysis and Design (SSAD) which was used for analysis and designing the system as well as the RAD (Rapid Application Development) which was easy to deliver a working system with all the modules worked upon one after the other. For the development of the online birth certificatemanagement system, PHP was utilized for server-side scripting to handle data processing and logic. MySQL was employed as the relational database management system to store and manage birth certificate records efficiently. Together, PHP and MySQL enabled the creation of a dynamic, responsive and robust system capable of handling multiple requests and maintaining data integrity. In conclusion, from the various tests carried out, the designed online birth certificate management system was found to be reliable and practical thus meeting the intended objectives of the researcher. The system also makes it easy to track the birth records fluently and print them.

    Sacco Management System (Case Study: Woman Of Purpose Sacco Pallisa)

    Here in this report, the development of a web-based SACCO management system sought to provide solution for dealing with operational challenges that are faced by SACCO’s. These SACCO’s are vital for financial inclusion and local economic development - especially in regions that have limited access to formal sector banking. Potentially led by manual processes, resource scarcity and ineffective supervisory mechanisms in place that have the tendency of resulting to inefficacy, enhanced operational overheads and sluggish service delivery. The system under consideration aims to automate SACCO operations as well improve member participation and accessibility of financial services in real time. Features include online saving and loan applications, real-time transaction monitoring, member management etc. Using cutting-edge web development technologies of PHP, HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript the system will help to cut your operational costs allowing you to deliver services better with record member satisfaction. The main aim of the study is to come up with a web-based system that will automate SACCO’s operations and, in the process, increase their operational efficiency. While related aims are to study the literature for system requirements, design a suitable SACCO’s need based model-system and develop an easy-to-use web-based solution that would help them in efficient savers' savings mobilization/borrower's loans serve preparation with members managements respectively. This study was done at the Woman of Purpose SACCO found on Pallisa Agule Road over a course period of two and half months in demonstrating how web-based system implementation has objectives that if achieved could empower SACCO’s, enhance their operational efficiency for sustainable economic development through financial inclusion. The report assesses how well the system has been doing based on case studies and user feedback, areas for improvement are identified using this data as-well-as some challenges with adoption by users and scaling up of systems. SSADM (structured system analysis and design methodology) was used - with a highlevel model of the intended systems documented, which is then broken down to its smaller components that would be further tested for consistency in implementation.

    Staff attendance and performance tracking system is a web system by which any company or organization can manage tasks among its employees. Staff attendance and performance tracking system is an automation system, which is used to store the Work tasks information of a company and attendance of employees. In a company where the hierarchy of employees spans over thousand managing the work with them is a difficult job. And in an environment where number of jobs is done simultaneously picking the right person for the job is also difficult task, as you are not aware of their availability. This application is designed for such an environment where the work is divided into group of employees and during the course of division the employees are selected to be part of the work in hand. This software being a web based is easily accessible from any corner of the company as every machine is part of a LAN network. The reason why it is made as a web application rather than a window-based application if for the same reason. The complete task is divided into two types of users. Administrator (Highest authority), employee (working group Community). The activities underlying these sections are as per the company policies. This application provides most of the features required to manage the tasks developed in a firm. This volume presents the manner in which the software was developed and how the various problems are tackled at the different levels to convince the user.
