The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) member countries are seeking to stimulate and enhance value addition to curb revenue loss in the leather subsector. It is estimated that the COMESA region, which constitutes 19 countries, including Uganda, loses over $4.5b (sh16.1 trillion) annually, through exportation of raw and semi-processed hides and skins, instead of exporting finished products.
