Abstract
This study focused on the development of a web-based cereal market information system for Nabiswa Farm in Kibuku District, Uganda. The study was motivated by challenges associated with the existing manual system, including poor record keeping, limited market access, time-consuming processes, and difficulties faced by farmers in connecting with customers due to geographical and environmental constraints. The main objective was to design, implement, and test a web-based system that enabled farmers to market and sell cereals more efficiently. Quantitative approaches was used that involved using interviews, questionnaires, and observations. The system was developed using the Structured Systems Analysis and Design Methodology (SSADM). Technologies used included PHP for backend development, MySQL for database management, and HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the user interface. The system provides functionalities such as user registration, product listing, market information access, and online purchasing. System testing and validation were conducted through unit, integration, functional, and user acceptance testing to ensure reliability and usability. Findings revealed that the system improves market access, enhances data management, reduces operational costs, and promotes transparency in cereal trade. The study concludes that the developed system effectively addresses the limitations of the manual system and is suitable for adoption in rural farming communities.
