Abstract
This study explores the parallels between the injustices faced by women in Budaka District,
Uganda, and the portrayal of women's struggles in Victor Byamazima's novel "Shadows of
Time". Through a mixed-methods approach involving questionnaires and focus group
discussions, the research reveals alarming rates of gender-based injustices, including domestic
violence, property dispossession, and limited access to education and economic opportunities.
The study juxtaposes these findings with the novel's depiction of women's experiences,
highlighting themes of patriarchal dominance, cultural oppression, and resilience. The research
underscores the persistence of these injustices in both reality and fiction, emphasizing the need
for cultural shift and policy interventions to address gender disparities.
