The Research aimed at analyzing the trends in banana (Musa) production in the Elgon Zone of, Bungatti Sub-County, Namisindwa District from 6th Feb,2026 to August ,12th.2026 .The Research objectives were; To assess the changes in banana production in Bungatti Sub-County over the last five years to determine household-level factors influencing banana production in Bungatti Sub-County and to identify off-farm factors influencing banana production in Bungatti Sub-County .Data were collected from Respondents using a Questionaire,Key informant interviews and Focused group discussions. The finding shows that banana production has greatly reduced over the last five years. Farmers who previously harvested about 10 bunches per season currently harvest between 2–3 bunches, while others get none. The research established that household-level factors contributing to the decline include poor manure management, limited capital, lack of enough fertilizers, and poor disease management practices. Also it was discovered that off-farm factors such as poor roads, high transport costs, unreliable markets, limited government support, and corruption in agricultural support programs have affected banana production. Diseases and pests were identified as the major challenge affecting banana plantations. Symptoms such as yellow leaves, black banana fingers, maggots in stems, and plant death before harvest were commonly reported by farmers. Basing on Findings, it was recommended that Improve rural roads and transport systems; Road infrastructure should be improved to reduce transport costs and ease market access. Strengthen disease control programs through Agricultural officers should monitor banana diseases and provide quick solutions to reduce disease spread. Provide affordable agricultural credit financial institutions and government programs should provide low-interest loans to banana farmers. Reliable market systems should be developed to reduce exploitation and improve farmers’ incomes.
