On bad days, he accumulated debts from friends who kept him in the game after his cash ran out. "But that is not the case anymore after gold deposits were discovered in the local government in 2012. Nowadays i wake up to go seek gold nuggets as a small scale miner."

Some concerns have centred on Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC)'s 15% participating interest held on behalf of the Government of Uganda, compared to the larger shares held by their international partners Total energies and China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC).
